TPM Media is looking for an entry level Associate Developer to work on several ongoing projects for high traffic political news site talkingpointsmemo.com on freelance basis. (Potential to build toward full-time position.)

Applicants must be New York based and able to visit/work frequently from our Chelsea offices.

You will work closely with our Designer/Developer and publishing staff on frontend design and code, optimizing the existing codebase, and developing new projects and ad products.

You are familiar with standards-based web development: Expert (X)HTML knowledge. Highly proficient to expert knowledge of CSS. Have some grasp of a web scripting language (JavaScript and/or PHP). Comfortable in Adobe Photoshop. Basic competency in a *nix shell (or willing to learn). You are obsessive about latest web technologies and the future of online news. Active in social media, willing and eager to learn new technologies and languages on the fly. Good design sense and writing skills.

Pluses: Experience with a blogging platform (preferably Movable Type, but any template-driven platform works). Experience with version control (Git or Subversion), experience with AJAX frameworks such as jQuery or Prototype, experience with XML and RESTful web services/APIs.
