PHP Application Developer at CollegeHumor in New York, NY

Connected Ventures is seeking an ambitious, well-rounded PHP engineer. You need to think like a user, be passionate about coding and excited to build and iterate features that impact millions of people. You will work with our small talented team of developers on a number of large high profile websites which include: CollegeHumor, Bustedtees, TodaysBIGthing, SportsPickle and a few new sites in the works. Collectively our sites reach over 12 million users every month. Connected Ventures is part of InterActiveCorp (IAC), a leading internet company with more than 50 fast-growing web properties.

Our primary stack is PHP on a custom MVC framework, Apache, MySQL and Memcached running on virtualized solaris and linux machines.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement and iterate on new and existing features
  • Contribute to product design and implementation discussions
  • Not be afraid to get your hands dirty playing with framework level code
  • Profile / optimize code and queries for performance
  • Work closely with our engineering team to build and scale back-end services
  • Enjoy nerf gun fights

Skills:

  • Experience working on a high volume website
  • Fluency in PHP 5 and the LAMP stack
  • MySQL with performance tuning and scalability
  • Strong understanding of Object Oriented Programming
  • Expertise with MVC methodologies
  • Caching / Scaling (Memcached, APC, etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of HTML, Javascript, CSS and XML
  • Experience with SPL a major plus
  • e-commerce, credit card authorizations, and billing feature experience
  • Experience with Linux or Solaris a plus
  • jQuery or Prototype
  • Experience building scalable frameworks
  • A preoccupation with staying on top of industry trends and technologies
